It's about a two-hour drive from the airport in Managua,
Nicaragua, to the famous cigarmaking city of Esteli. The route to Esteli
wends its way along the shore of Lake Nicaragua before climbing upward
toward the city in the mountains. To pass the time, Drew Estate's president,
Jonathan Drew, puts the 8 Mile soundtrack into the SUV's CD player. As the
song, “Lose Yourself” begins, Drew's best friend and business partner,
Marvin Samel, says, “You've got to listen to the lyrics. The song's about
being ready when you're called on to perform. It's about trusting yourself

The history of the Perdomo family's cigar
making tradition recounts three generations of Cuban cigar artisans and
their quest for survival, freedom and their fervent dream of producing the
finest cigars in the world. The communist revolution of 1959 and the
considerable struggles that followed would not deter them from their
tenacious path of defiance and persistence. Enduring years of political
strife, hardship and brutal oppression - culminating with the eventual
discovery of freedom and survival in a new world - is how the seeds of the
Perdomo cigar tradition have taken root and flourished. Today, led by the
third generation of cigar maker Nick Perdomo, Jr., Tabacalera Perdomo, S.A.
has gained its rightful place as one of the most successfully innovative and
fiercely passionate manufacturers of premium cigars in the world. |

It
started in 1982 in Santa Fe, New Mexico when two friends had a dream of
creating a better cigarette. Naturally, they looked to their surroundings
for inspiration. They looked to American Indian culture and their belief
that tobacco should be used in moderation, and in its natural state. Our
name, Natural American Spirit, was chosen as a symbol of respect for this
tradition.
Almost twenty-five years later we are still as passionate about our product
and community as our founders. We still produce only the finest, 100%
additive-free natural tobacco products found anywhere and we are still
committed to the values our company was founded on.
